No "Chinese-Style" Market Reform for North Korea

It seems Kim Jong-il has spoken...North Korea is NOT China, and that he truly resents any hint of suggestion that the North should follow in China's footsteps.

South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported yesterday Kim Jong-il has sacked the Korean Central Television station's head Cha Sung-su over some commercials which began airing on 02 July 2009. According to Yonhap, the last commercials were aired on 31 August.

Apparently, Kim became furious when he saw the commercials and said, "What it this? That kind of rubbish appeared when China started reforms and openness."

Ahhh....too bad....I thought those commercials were really quite quaint....

Here's the Taedonggang Beer commercial, which was one of the three commercials that were canned. (video from YouTube)
